Drunk woman drives across Chambers Bay golf course

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- A woman who crashed through a gate and drove across the Chambers Bay Golf Course at University Place told police she vandalized the grounds so she wouldn't hurt her girlfriend after a fight.

The 23-year-old woman was arrested Saturday and charged by Pierce County prosecutors with drunken driving, criminal trespass and malicious mischief.

The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/18PwJPO ) she caused at least $2,000 damage. The county-owned golf course on Puget Sound will host the 2015 U.S. Open Championship.
